Jay Banushali to host &TV’s 'The Voice India' for kids Actor Jay Banushali, who has showcased his anchoring skills in shows like "Dance India Dance" and "Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale", is said to have been approached to host the upcoming children singing reality show "The Voice India Kids". After the success of "The Voice India" -- the Indian edition of the internationally acclaimed reality format "The Voice" -- the makers are returning with "The Voice India Kids", which will offer youngsters between the age group of 6 to 14 a chance to showcase their singing talent on a national platform. "The makers of the show have approached Jay to host the first season of 'The Voice India Kids'. Jay, who is known for his outstanding hosting skills and connects well with the audience, fits best for the role. The makers and the artiste are on the last stage of discussion," said a source close to the show. "The Voice India Kids" will go on air in July on &TV. Saniya, the girl who turned into a boy - Manpreet! &TV’s social drama Waaris traces the journey of a girl whose identity is hidden by her own mother and has been raised as a boy under adverse circumstances. Essaying this character is none other than Saniya Tauqueer a real life girl who has undergone a makeover and willingly had her long lustrous tresses chopped to a pixie cut. The livewire that she is, Saniya is quite mature for her age and is consciously making efforts to do justice to the role of playing Amba’s son Manpreet. Says Saniya “The role demanded that I cut my hair so I did it. It will grow back.” Furthermore, she is aware of the fact that boys act in a certain manner and hence she gets her training from the male co-stars on the set who lovingly call her “bro” because she is no less than a boy for them. Be it cricket matches or splits or cartwheels, Saniya aces it all proving the point that in no way are girls different from boys… its just a reflection of the society. Adds Saniya, “When I first went to school with the short haircut, my friends thought I am a new boy in their class. Once they started talking to me they realized their mistake. &TV’s Gangaa to be made into a short film Set in the heartlands of India, &TV’s social drama Gangaa has been pioneer in showcasing the story about a girl’s indomitable spirit and her will to survive. From the banks of Ganges to the narrow winding lanes of Varanasi, the picturesque story of Gangaa which has charmed one and all will now be captured in a short film to be aired this Saturday, July 2nd on &TV. Gangaa - ‘Chota Parda Badi Movie’ is a 2-hour short film which will encompass Gangaa’s journey. From challenging the social norms to standing up for herself, Gangaa has chronicled her own path. The story begins with the sensitive issue of child marriage, widowhood and rigid customs being followed even to this day in modern India, where it is believed that widows must lead a life of self-denial. Gangaa, a child, becomes a child widow and is banished to live in a broken-down widows' home. She will be seen as a threat to age old customs of the society. Apart from her struggle, the story will also show how she has embraced adulthood and is in love and is about to get married which definitely makes for an endearing and poignant story which will be encapsulated in the short film. When we asked Aditi Sharma who plays the titular character on the show she said, “Gangaa is close to my heart as it’s my first ever television show and also because the concept of the show is strikingly different. Also, Ruhana Khanna who played the Choti Ganga had created an impact in the minds of the audiences and I felt a huge responsibility bestowed upon me when I had to step into her shoes post the leap.
